Steam’s New Trade Protected Items: Why BitSkins Now Locks Funds for 7 Days
Valve has just launched a new security feature for Counter-Strike: Trade Protected Items.
🔐 What does it mean?
If your Steam account is compromised or you’re scammed, you can now reverse all CS item trades made in the last 7 days. This option is available on your Steam Trade History page.
This means even if an item was sold or passed on — the original owner can now reclaim it by initiating a reversal.
❗ Why are we locking funds?
Due to this new policy, BitSkins must temporarily lock funds from item sales for 7 days:
- If a user sells an item and later reverses the trade via Steam, we lose the item — but the funds might have already been withdrawn.
- That’s why funds are held until the 7-day trade protection period ends - only then can we be sure the item can’t be taken back.
This protects both buyers and the entire BitSkins ecosystem.
🔁 How does it work?
- You deposit an item on BitSkins.
- After a few days, you sell it — funds appear on your account, but are locked until the 7-day protection period ends.
- During that time, you can’t spend or withdraw the funds.
- Once the 7 days pass — funds are automatically released.
✅ Security first
We understand this may be inconvenient, but we have no choice - it’s required by Steam’s policy, and we’re committed to protecting our users.
Thanks for your trust and support 💙
1. What are Trade Protected Items on Steam?
Steam's new feature allows users to reverse all Counter-Strike item trades from the last 7 days in case of account compromise or scams. These items are marked as "Trade Protected".
2. Why does BitSkins lock my funds for 7 days?
To comply with Steam's new trade protection system, BitSkins temporarily locks funds from the sale of items for 7 days. This ensures the item can’t be reclaimed via trade reversal before funds are released.
3. Can I use the locked funds to buy something on BitSkins?
No, locked funds cannot be used for purchases or withdrawals until the 7-day protection period ends.
4. What happens after the 7-day period?
Once the 7-day protection ends, your funds are automatically unlocked and become available for withdrawal or purchases.
5. What if my item has been on BitSkins longer than 7 days?
If your item has been held by BitSkins for more than 7 days before being sold, the funds are immediately available after the sale - no lock is applied.
6. Is this feature permanent?
Yes. As long as Steam enforces the trade protection system, BitSkins will need to follow this policy to ensure compliance and protect users.
