Armory Ban Wave in China locks thousands of stars

There have been reports of Valve banning numerous Armory farmers in China. The ban has struck a multitude of accounts that were attempting to exploit bots to farm Armory stars. According to sources, thousands of stars have now been locked within these accounts, with no apparent means of recovery.

The Armory was introduced in the game in an update last October, which allowed players to earn stars and redeem cases or skins simply by playing the game and gaining exp. However, many Chinese players tried to farm these starts by using bots to accumulate exp at an accelerated rate.

So, what does this mean for players? Could it be a signal that Valve intends to refresh or overhaul the Armory content? Back in September, Valve did tweet that it was the final opportunity to acquire the Gallery Case and other items from the Armory. It caused the price of the Gallery Case, once hovering around $0.63, to skyrocketed by over 100%, and it now rests at roughly $1.30 apiece. Yet since then, there’s been radio silence, with the only update being this ban wave. Perhaps this is a sweeping purge before a new phase?

Either way, it’s ill-advised to invest in the Gallery Case at this stage, as it’s already been heavily invested upon. The addition of Armory, in itself, is novel to the game, which makes it all the more interesting to see what Valve plans to do next with it.
