New Steam Game Becomes Front for CS2 Item Scam

Scammers have found a new way to deceive unsuspecting players by incorporating fake Counter-Strike 2 items into a lesser-known Steam game titled Plumber’s Legacy. Released on June 26, 2025, the game has quickly become a vessel for fraudulent activity.

Using asset manipulation and misleading item names, scammers are creating items within Plumber’s Legacy that appear visually or textually identical to legitimate CS2 skins. These items are then added to their Steam inventories, where they attempt to trade them off as real CS2 skins, often targeting users who don’t double-check the game origin before accepting a trade.

Given the game has already been live for several days, it is highly likely that there are already victims who have unknowingly fallen for the scam.

How to Protect Yourself:

• Always double-check the game title attached to an item before completing a trade.
• Avoid trades involving unfamiliar games or unknown users.
• Make sure to inspect the skin before confirming the trade.

Valve has not yet issued a statement on this particular case, but scams involving lookalike items from obscure Steam games are not new. Players are advised to stay vigilant and report suspicious listings.

PS: If you’ve recently accepted a trade involving Plumber’s Legacy items, verify their authenticity immediately and consider reporting the trader through Steam’s report system.

UPDATE: Valve quickly fixed this as the game seems to no longer be available on Steam.
